This course looks at the changing nature of the Soviet union and the impact of Stalin's leadership
The topics examined include:
- The power struggle and the circumstances under which Stalin assumes power
- The changing nature of economic policy from the unpopular and slightly capitalist NEP under Lenin to the introduction of The Five Year Plans, a policy of rapid industrialisation which moves the Soviet Union towards the Communist ideal, but was massively inefficient
- The implementation of Collectivisation, what occurs as a result of this and why it was briefly abandoned
- The purges; What were they?, How many died? and the differing interpretation of why they occured and their extent
- The beginning and implementation of the 'Cult of Stalin', how it grew, why it grew and the impact on the Soviet people and what they thought about it
The
course is examined through a one and a half hour exam on the AQA exam
board and past papers are readily available on the internetRevision resources are now available to download on the VLE
